Uttar Pradesh: Staff locks school, leaves 7-year-old girl for 18 hours

A seven-year-old girl was left locked in a school for about 18 hours when the school’s staff carelessly went home without seeing if there were any children left.

On Wednesday morning when the school opened the incident came to light.

A student of class one of the primary school in Dhanari Patti of Gunnaur tehsil was left inside the school on Tuesday, said Block Education Officer Pope Singh. “She was found this morning when the school opened. The girl is fine,” said BEO.

Her maternal uncle told her that when she did not return home from school on Tuesday when the girl’s grandmother reached the school, the staff told her that there was no child left there.

The family members searched for her in the forest but she was nowhere to be found. When the school reopened at 8 am on Wednesday, it was found that the girl was lying locked in the school room overnight.

Block Education Officer Singh said that even after the school hours were over, the teachers and other staff members did not inspect the rooms. It is a case of negligence and action will be taken against the entire staff.
