According to the Global Hunger Index (GHI) of 2022, India has fallen from 107th to 107th position under the Narendra Modi government. Congress leader and MP P Chidambaram took a swipe at the Narendra Modi government Saturday.
The Global Human Development Index, published yesterday, ranked India 107th out of 121 nations. The rank of India in 2020 was 101. There is a significant difference between India and its neighbors, Nepal (81), Pakistan (99), Sri Lanka (64), and Bangladesh (84). According to the Global Hunger Index, which ranks countries according to their ‘severity’, India has been ranked 29.1, which places it in the ‘serious’ category of hunger.
When will the Hon’ble PM address real issues like malnutrition, hunger, and stunting and wasting among children?
22.4 crore people in India are considered undernourished

Moreover, 19.3 percent of children are wasted, and 35.5% are stunted. A Hindutva agenda, imposing Hinduism, and spreading hatred will not alleviate hunger.”
According to Chidambaram, compared to the regime of the UPA government, “our score has declined since 2014 in the eight years of the Modi government.” Approximately 16.3% of Indians are undernourished, meaning that they do not receive enough food.
While India had a trend of recording lower scores until 2014, they have been increasing since that time. In 2014, India’s GHI score decreased from 38.8 in 2000 to 28.2.
The GHI data indicates that undernourishment in the population increased from 14.8 in 2014 to 16.3 in 2022, and wasting in children under five jumped from 15.1 in 2014 to 19.3 in 2022. Child wasting is characterized by low weight for height, reflecting acute undernutrition, among children under the age of five. With regard to undernourishment, this is the share of the population consuming insufficient calories.
