“Where’s SRIMATHI?”: Jairam Ramesh pokes fun at the Modi government over “catchy acronyms”

On Tuesday, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh made a far-fetched remark about the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led national government’s attempt to develop acronyms with instant appeal. Ramesh shared an incident from a recent parliamentary Standing Committee meeting in which members were informed about the government-organized initiative known as ‘SRIMAN,’ which is also a word in Hindi that is meant to call a masculine person with regard.

“There is absolutely no match for Modi Sarkar’s fixation with inventing memorable acronyms. We learned about Scientific Research Infrastructure Sharing Maintenance and Networks today at the Standing Committee meeting (SRIMAN). “My response was where’s SRIMATHI!” he tweeted.

The national government of Narendra Modi is implementing a variety of projects or programmes that can be recognised by their acronyms that connect to well-known phrases or words. The Centre’s aviation scheme UDAN, for example, has its own meaning in Hindi that is related to the programme; nonetheless, it is an abbreviation of ‘Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik’ (Common citizens of the country fly) or AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation).

According to the Department of Science and Technology, SRIMAN is a government programme that intends to improve the efficient use and wider access of research infrastructure to scientists, industry experts, and researchers in the country by establishing a network of key stakeholders.
