With its $10 million worldwide box office debut, Fawad Khan’s The Legend of Maula Jatt crosses another milestone

It has been a very successful year for the Pakistani film industry with The Legend of Maula Jatt by Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan. In theatres worldwide, the Bilal Lashari-directed film has been running successfully since October.

PKR 220 crores ($10 million) have been earned by the Fawad Khan film during its seven-week run at the box office, according to Pinkvilla. The film earned a domestic market of PKR 87.50 crores ($3.98 million), and an overseas market of PKR 132.50 crores ($6 million). It is the most prominent South Asian grosser since Padmavat in 2018, with a UK gross of £1.39 million.

Similarly, the report suggests that their Indian fans might soon be able to see the film starring Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan. However, there has been no official announcement regarding the release of The Legend of Maula Jatt. As an actor, Fawad has worked in Indian films such as Khoobsurat, Kapoor & Sons, and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016). Raees, a 2017 Hindi film starring Shah Rukh Khan, was Mahira’s debut film.

Recently, Fawad Khan appeared in Ms Marvel, part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In her review, Shubhra Gupt gave The Legend of Maula Jatt 3.5 stars and called it a “chatpata Game of Thrones.” “The Legend Of Maula Jatt reminds you of the movies Bollywood used to make, loudly, proudly declamatory, where good vs evil was at its core.” It was Lollywood’s legacy as well. ‘Maula Jatt’ brings back the ‘gandasa’, a weapon we’ve been living without for decades, as a heroic choice of weapon, and makes Fawad Khan parlay rage with such efficiency that he rescues him from playing the eternal lover. Therefore proving that the ‘gandasa’-flashing Fawad is as sexy as he is potent,” she wrote in her review.
