The Indian Navy’s P8I aircraft will participate in Sea Dragon 23, the third coordinated multilateral anti-submarine warfare (ASW) exercise for long-range maritime reconnaissance aircraft.
A Navy statement says that the US Navy is in charge of the exercise, which is why the P8I plane went to Guam on March 14.
The exercise started on March 15 and will go on until March 30. It focuses on how the countries taking part can work together to fight against submarines.
The Navy said that these exercises have steadily gotten harder and bigger over the past few years, and that they now include advanced ASW drills.
The Navy said in a statement, “Ex Sea Dragon 23 will test the abilities of the participating aircraft to track both simulated and real underwater targets while also letting them share their knowledge.”
The exercise will also include a P8A from the US Navy, a P1 from the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force, a CP 140 from the Royal Canadian Air Force, and a P3C from the RoKN.
“The Exercise aims to achieve high levels of synergy and coordination between the friendly navies,” the Navy said. “This is based on their shared values and commitment to an open, inclusive Indo-Pacific.”
The Japanese ship JS Suzutsuki, an Akizuki Class Destroyer, and the Navy ship INS Sahyadri worked out together in the Arabian Sea last week.
The exercise aimed to show how much they cared about regional and global security issues. It included cross-deck landings by helicopters that were part of the ships, tactical manoeuvres, and the ships’ usual “steam past.”
