The Navy will commission its fifth diesel-electric Scorpene-class submarine, Vagir, the following week, the Navy announced Thursday.
Vagir is one of six submarines being constructed in India by the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) of Mumbai, in conjunction with the French M/s Naval Group, as part of the Project 75, which costs over Rs23,000 crore.
Four of these submarines of the Kalvari class have already been commissioned into the Navy, with the sixth and last one scheduled for delivery by the end of the year.
On January 23, Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar will be the guest of honour. Vagir was launched on November 12, 2020, and began sea testing on February 1, 2022.
