Supreme Court refuses to hear plea seeking the arrest of ex-BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma for Prophet comments

The Supreme Court on Friday refused to entertain a plea seeking direction from the authorities to arrest former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma for her remarks on the Prophet. “Court should be very careful at the time of issuing directions”. According to the Bar and Bench, Chief Justice of India UU Lalit said, “Our suggestion is to withdraw it.

The petitioner then withdrew the petition, which sought direction from the authorities to arrest Sharma for hurting the sentiments of the Muslim community with his remarks.

In July, the top court ordered no coercive action against the suspended BJP spokesperson in connection with several FIRs against him across the country. The top court also directed that in the meantime no coercive action be taken against Sharma on any existing or future FIRs or complaints.

Sharma had earlier moved the court for his remarks against Prophet Muhammad and seeking to club the cases against him for protection from arrest.
