‘Kamikaze Drones’ hit Kyiv, blasting Rock Capital for the second time in a week

The explosion in the Ukrainian capital’s central Shevchenkivsky district early Monday for the second time in a week, Mayor Vitaly Klitschko said, damaged several residential buildings.

“Rescuers are on site,” Klitschko said on the Telegram messaging service, adding that what he said was a drone attack also caught fire in a non-residential building.

There was no immediate information on casualties.

Shevchenkivsky District, a busy hub brimming with universities, student bars and restaurants, was hit by multiple explosions on Monday last week when Russia retaliated for a blast on a bridge connecting mainland Russia to Crimea in Ukrainian cities. The largest air strike was ordered against them.

Ukrainian presidential staff chief Andriy Yermak said the attacks were carried out with suicide drones.

“The Russians think it will help them, but such actions are just their cramp,” Yermak said on the Telegram messaging app.

Ukraine has reported several Russian attacks in recent weeks with Iranian-made Shahed-136 drones. Iran has denied supplying drones to Russia, while the Kremlin has not commented.

Russia has denied targeting civilians in its “special military operation” in Ukraine.
