On Tuesday, Haryana Police filed a criminal case against unnamed Rajasthan Police officers for allegedly beating the pregnant wife of one of the five men accused of killing two men from Rajasthan whose burned bodies were found in a car on February 16.
Shrikant Pandit is a member of Gau Rakshak Dal. His family said that policemen from Rajasthan broke into their home on February 17 and hit Kamlesh Pandit, who was nine months pregnant at the time, causing her to have a miscarriage. This is what the family said happened. The claims were denied by the Rajasthan Police.
Shrikant Pandit’s mother, Dulari Devi, said that between 30 and 40 Rajasthan Police officers broke into their home in Maroda village at 3.30 a.m. on February 17 and beat her daughter-in-law.
“Kamlesh was 9 months along in her pregnancy. We begged the police, some of whom were not wearing uniforms, but they insulted us, beat us up, and took our two sons,” Devi said.
When police went to check on the family, Srikant Pandit was not there. Vishnu and Rahul, Devi’s sons, came back after being questioned by the police.
Devi said that Kamlesh was pushed to the ground and landed on her stomach. “She was in so much pain that she was screaming, but they left her in a pool of blood and left. “By the time we got to the hospital, the doctors told us that she had already lost the baby,” she said.
At the Nagina police station in Haryana, police have filed a case under Indian Penal Code sections 312 (causing miscarriage), 148 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly), 323 (assault), 354 (assault or criminal force to a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty), and 452 (house trespass after planning to hurt, assault, or wrongfully restrain).
Senior members of the Haryana Police said that the National Commission of Women was aware of the situation and had written to them asking them to take action.
On Sunday, Nuh police dug up the “foetus” and did an autopsy, but it’s still not clear what caused the death.
The Nuh police chief, Varun Singla, said, “We are checking all the facts and details. Even with the post-mortem report, it’s still not clear what caused the death. That’s why we sent the viscera to the lab to find out more.
Rajasthan Police denied these claims and said that they were always with Haryana Police officials when they went to Haryana to talk about the case.
Umesh Mishra, the head of police in Rajasthan, said, “The Rajasthan Police have always been with their counterparts in Haryana. Legal steps have been taken according to the rules, and no one’s rights have been broken.”
Usha Kundu, an assistant superintendent of police (ASP) in Nuh, said that their teams went with Rajasthan Police but left after showing them Pandit’s home. “We don’t know what went on after that. “There is an investigation going on,” she said.
