ULFA recruitment case: NIA searches 16 locations across 7 districts of Assam

In a major crackdown against the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA), the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday conducted searches at 16 locations in Assam in connection with the ULFA recruitment case and terrorist training in Myanmar.

The agency conducted searches at sixteen places in seven districts of Assam including Kamrup, Nalbani, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Sadiya, Charaideo, and Sivasagar, the NIA said in a statement issued on Friday.

The case, which was self-registered by the NIA on May 18 this year, deals with the recruitment of youths in ULFA, extortion to strengthen ULFA, and radicalization of youth for illegal activities and camps located on the Indo-Myanmar border in Myanmar. related to their training. , informed the statement.

“During the search,… digital equipment, ammunition as well as incriminating documents and literature relating to ULFA have been seized,” the statement said. It further said that the investigation into the matter is still on.

The case involves the ULFA (I), a faction of the outlawed organization demanding sovereign Assam, while a large part of the Aurobindo Rajkhowa-led outfit surrendered in 2010 and talks with the government.

Meanwhile, as the Assam government continues its efforts to curb militancy in the state, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma January this year identified the ULFA (I) as the last hurdle in achieving peace in the state.
