SC Collegium recommends the nomination of four district judges to the Madras High Court

The Supreme Court Collegium, presided over by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, has proposed the appointment of four district judges to the Madras High Court.

The collegium, composed of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and KM Joseph, proposed the nominations of R Sakthivel, P Dhanabal, Chinnasamy Kumarappan, and K Rajasekar.

The resolution dated March 21 indicated that the chief minister and governor of Tamil Nadu had approved the suggestion given by the High Court Collegium on August 10, 2022, for appointing four judicial officers as judges of the Madras High Court.

It stated that the file was obtained from the Department of Justice on January 5, 2023.

“In accordance with the memorandum of procedure, in order to determine the eligibility and suitability of the above-named judicial officers for elevation to the high court, this collegium consulted the Supreme Court judges familiar with the business of the Madras High Court,” read the resolution.

In another resolution, the collegium reaffirmed its July 25, 2022, recommendation for the appointment of Senior Advocate Harpreet Singh Brar as a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
