To Kill a Tiger” Roars into Oscars 2024 Spotlight as Best Documentary Feature Nominee.

Nisha Pahuja's Cinematic Journey from a Delhi Village to the Prestigious Academy Awards

New Delhi: In a groundbreaking moment for Indian cinema, ‘To Kill a Tiger,’ a documentary set in a humble Indian village, has clinched a coveted nomination for Best Documentary Feature at the upcoming 2024 Academy Awards.

Directed by Delhi-born filmmaker Nisha Pahuja, who stands as an Emmy-nominated luminary based in Toronto, ‘To Kill a Tiger’ emerged into the limelight after its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival 2022. The film not only captured hearts but also secured the Amplify Voices Award for Best Canadian Feature Film.

Pahuja’s creation delves into the gripping narrative of Ranjit, a father embroiled in an arduous quest for justice after his 13-year-old daughter falls victim to abduction and sexual assault by three assailants.

“Ranjit goes to the police, and the men are arrested. But Ranjit’s relief is short-lived, as the villagers and their leaders launch a sustained campaign to force the family to drop the charges. A cinematic documentary, ‘To Kill a Tiger’ follows Ranjit’s uphill battle to find justice for his child,” details the official website of the gripping documentary.

The production, skillfully executed by Cornelia Principe and David Oppenheim, competes fiercely in the Oscar race against four other documentaries: “Bobi Wine: The People’s President,” “The Eternal Memory,” “Four Daughters,” and “20 Days in Mariupol.”

The 96th annual Academy Awards, scheduled for March 10 at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles, will witness the pinnacle of cinematic excellence. Returning to host the ceremony for the second consecutive year is the charismatic Jimmy Kimmel, marking his fourth stint at the dais. As the global spotlight turns towards ‘To Kill a Tiger,’ anticipation and excitement escalate, signaling a triumph for both Indian cinema and the indomitable spirit of storytelling.
