Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s dream is being carried forward by PM Modi: Anurag Thakur

According to Anurag Thakur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is implementing Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s vision of ‘One India (Ek Bharat)’ with ‘Shreshta Bharat (India the best),’ adding that if Patel had not been present, India would have been fragmented into hundreds of princely states.

In the past, one family was promoted as if they fought the entire freedom struggle. Still, history indicates that wherever they intervened, that area could not become a part of India in real terms,” he stated in delivering the Sardar Patel Memorial Lecture that was broadcast on All India Radio.

The first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, played a significant role in the accession of Jammu & Kashmir to India, Thakur said. The Modi government has realised Patel’s dream by abrogating Article 370 and terminating Article 35A.”

He said that Patel was a visionary, and it was unfortunate that he was not given enough opportunities to lead the country post-independence.

“The leaders of the time committed some blunders regarding China… Patel was aware of the impending threat from China. In a letter he wrote to Nehru on November 7, 1948, he stated, “China is trying to mislead us by declaring its peaceful intentions.” The Union minister expressed his regret for letting Tibetans down who placed their trust in us.
