Two people were arrested for beating a man over an argument on the next CM.

Police said on Wednesday that two people were taken into custody after a fight broke out in the Bhadravathi taluk of Shivamogga district over who should be the next chief minister of Karnataka.

The police say that on February 19 at Malligenahalli Camp in Bhadravathi taluk, Akash, who was 28, got into a fight with Dinesh, Yogesh, and a few others over who should be the next chief minister between Congress leader Siddaramaiah and JD(S) leader Kumaraswamy.

The police said that the victim went to work at Maligenahalli camp around 4 p.m. and ran into his friends Dinesh and Yogesh on the way.

“As he was talking to them, Akash said that Siddaramaiah was the chief minister in 2013, and that he would also be the next chief minister. A police officer said that Dinesh, Yogesh, and three other people stood in front of the victim and said that Kumaraswamy would be the chief minister this time.

This led to a fight between them, and the accused yelled at Akash and tore his shirt, according to the police. “Dinesh and Yogesh kicked the victim in the chest, and if he told the police, they said they would kill him. When Kumar heard the noise, he went to the scene and split up the crowd, the police said.

The victim went home after the attack and found that a chain he was wearing was broken. He was in a lot of pain, the police said. “His friends Kumar and Pawan put the victim in a car and took him to the Bhadravati Government Hospital to get help. Later, he went to the police station, told them what had happened, and filed a complaint against Dinesh and Yogeshwar, the police say.

“I don’t really know them. They know each other. When I was on my way to work, they beat me up over something small. My chain is broken and I have wounds on my chest. I told the police what happened, and I hope they do more,” Akash said in his complaint.

A first information report (FIR) was made against Dinesh and Yogesh based on what the victim said. The police said that more legal action will be taken after they finish their investigation. They also said that no one has been arrested so far because of the incident.

The accused have been charged under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 143, 147, 148, 341, 504, 323, 324, 506, and 149.
