In a Chhattisgarh school, eight students have been arrested for ragging.

EIGHT STUDENTS from a residential school in Chhattisgarh’s Kabirdham area were detained after it was revealed that they raped their juniors last week, torturing and punching them and chopping off their hair with scissors.

Officials said the March 11 incident came to light on Wednesday after a couple of videos surfaced on social media showing the pupils slapping and abusing the juniors, who were all between the ages of 12 and 13. In one of the recordings, the seniors are seen cutting the hair of two students.

At least five children were harmed in the incident, according to officials.

As the event became public, Kabirdham Collector Janmejay Mahobe initiated an investigation. The superintendent of the residential school was fired, and the school principal was served with a showcause notice.

“Seven of the eight defendants are juveniles. One of them is a young man of 18 years old. “He was arrested and brought before a court, which sentenced him to judicial custody,” a police official said.

An FIR has been filed under IPC Sections 294 (public obscenity), 342 (wrongful detention), 323 (causing harm), and 506 (criminal intimidation), as well as Section 4 of the Prevention of Ragging Act, 2011.
