Rajya Sabha has been postponed as the opposition continues to demand a Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Adani accusations.
On Monday (March 20), the Rajya Sabha adjourned in less than 10 minutes after assembling for the day, as the Opposition continued to press for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to investigate the charges against the Adani Group. The House has been adjourned till 2 p.m.
Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar stated that he had received 14 notices from members under Rule 267, which allows for the suspension of the day’s proceedings to address an issue made by a member. Nine of those notices were from Congress members who wished to “address the government’s refusal to form a JPC” to investigate the claims against the Adani Group.
Binoy Viswam and Sandosh Kumar P of the Communist Party of India (CPI), Elamaram Kareem of the CPI (Marxist), and Sanjay Singh of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also filed notices in connection with the Adani project.
Congress MP Shaktisinh Gohil issued a notice to discuss the Z+ security cover provided to a Gujarat-based individual, Kiran Patel when he recently visited Kashmir and was granted access to regions off-limits to civilians. Patel was detained for impersonating a Prime Minister’s Office official.
Although not indicating whether these notices would be permitted, the chairman then directed AAP MP Raghav Chadha to commence Zero Hour. As a result, the Opposition disrupted the proceedings and increased the demand for the JPC.
