Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, undeterred by the recent hurdles, pressed forward with the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Assam on Wednesday, restarting the journey from Barpeta. This comes on the heels of a standoff with authorities that prevented the Yatra from entering Guwahati city the previous day. However, the Yatra’s continuation is overshadowed by legal troubles, as Assam Police booked several Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and KC Venugopal, on charges of violence, provocation, damage to public property, and assault on police personnel.
The Yatra, now in its 11th day, witnessed Rahul Gandhi addressing a gathered crowd before resuming the journey. Unfazed by the legal entanglements, he renewed his verbal onslaught against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, labeling him once again as “the most corrupt CM.”
In his address, Rahul Gandhi accused Sarma of perpetuating a divisive agenda and encroaching upon public lands. “The Chief Minister of Assam (Himanta Biswa Sarma) spreads hate all the time and takes away your lands. He is the most corrupt chief minister,” remarked Gandhi, emphasizing his stance against the state’s leadership.
The resumption of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Assam not only signifies the Congress party’s determination but also underscores the escalating tensions between political figures in the region. As legal proceedings loom over the Congress leaders involved, the political landscape in Assam remains charged with controversy and confrontation.
