A teenager from Chhattisgarh writes board examinations with his left leg and hopes to become a teacher.

A 17-year-old crippled lad from Chhattisgarh has written his Class 12 (HSC) board test papers with his left leg, which can inspire many.

Mahesh Singh, a resident of Ambikapur in the Surguja district, hails from a poor agricultural family and suffers from phocomelia, an uncommon affliction (malformation of arms and legs). Nonetheless, this has not deterred the adolescent’s ambition to become a teacher. Mahesh began writing with his left foot in first grade.

“There are many people who have influenced me, but it is my cousins who work in the farms, and looking at them, I feel that even I should achieve something in my life,” he remarked when questioned about his influences.

Singh, an Arts student, told The Deccan Era that the exams went well and that he expects to get about 70%. He claims that writing continuously causes his leg pain. He does, however, complete the answers most of the time, and his handwriting (see photo) is pretty readable.

Singh lost his father while he was a child. His mother raises him, and both of his sisters are married. In addition to studying, he assists his mother with farming.

“I want to be a Hindi school teacher as soon as feasible,” he remarked. I’d like to continue my education. My mother is over 60 years old, and I would like to assist her financially. I’m hoping the government will assist me in realising my dream.”

According to Asha Kujur, principal of Bhagwanpur Higher Secondary School, where Mahesh is a pupil, the adolescent inspires not only his classmates but the entire country. “He is a quiet youngster who does not speak much,” Kujur explained. The school is assisting him in any manner they can. He has been an inspiration to both the school and the entire country.”
