CPM: TMC govt using police to incite violence against opposition

West Bengal CPI(M) secretary Mohammad Salim on Tuesday lashed out at the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government in the state for what he termed as “use of police to incite violence on opposition parties”.

Salim said, Addressing the students and youth wing members of the party at Esplanade, Kolkata. The police have killed Anees Khan (a former student leader). This state is not of thieves, robbers, and dacoits. Bengal belongs to common people like laborers, farmers, and the middle class. Youth need employment. The state needs industry. The TMC government has played with the lives of the people. Enough is enough.

The youth and students wing of the CPM held an insaaf (justice) rally at Esplanade to bring justice to Anees Khan, who was killed under mysterious circumstances in February this year. The Left parties have accused the police of killing the youth, a charge denied by the state government.

While Anees’s father Salem Khan has alleged that his son was attacked on the third floor of their house in Amta, Howrah, and some men in civilian volunteer uniforms, the police have denied the allegation and claimed that he had fallen by mistake.

Putting pressure on the state government, Salim said that the CPI(M) will continue to fight for peace, and justice and ensure employment for the youth.

The time has come for our youth to fight for employment. We have to save the education system which is tarnished by allegations of corruption in the recruitment process. We also have to fight those forces who threaten to disrupt communal harmony in the state,” said Salim, a CPI(M) politburo member.

He also accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of allying with the RSS and claimed that the TMC helped the saffron outfit gain a foothold in the state.

Salim said, Demand for waging war given the 2023 Panchayat elections in the state. Enough to live in a shell for 10-11 years, the new generation is waking up and wanting to break free from it.

He claimed that a helpline opened by the CPI(M) for people to express their complaints about irregularities in their panchayat areas has received an overwhelming response.

We have to buy more computers and engage additional volunteers for complaint registration.

CPI(M) youth wing (DYFI) secretary Meenakshi Mukherjee said Tuesday’s rally was not allowed by the police. “Police are doing everything possible to stop the movement. Our fight for justice will be long. But we are ready to fight a long battle.”
