PM Modi writes to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed to further cement bilateral strategic ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written a letter to the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to further strengthen the strategic ties between the two countries and the possibilities to develop them to serve their common interests, official media reported here.

Prime Minister Modi’s letter was delivered by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to UAE President Mohamed when he met him during his visit to the Gulf country here on Friday.

Jaishankar was in the UAE this week to attend meetings of the 14th session of the UAE-India Joint Committee and the third session of the UAE-India Strategic Dialogue.

The UAE’s official news agency, WAM, reported that the letter deals with the possibilities of strengthening the strategic ties between the two countries and developing them to serve their common interests.

“During the meeting, the two sides discussed various aspects of their bilateral relations and the importance of cooperation to enhance and advance them within the framework of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the UAE-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), besides Many regional and international issues of mutual concern,” it said.

“Thank you His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for receiving me. PM @narendramodi’s personal congratulations and warm wishes. We greatly value his guidance in taking our comprehensive strategic partnership to greater heights,” Jaishankar said. said in a tweet on Friday.

Bilateral trade stood at around US$ 72 billion in the fiscal year 2021-22. UAE is India’s third-largest trading partner and second-largest export destination. UAE FDI in India has grown steadily over the years and currently stands at over US$12 billion.

The Indian expatriate community is the largest ethnic community in the United Arab Emirates, accounting for about 35 percent of the country’s population.

The United Arab Emirates (after the US and China) is India’s third largest export destination with an amount of around USD 16 billion for the year 2020-21.

For UAE, India is the third largest trading partner with an amount of around USD 27.93 billion (non-oil trade) for the year 2020.
