Cracks emerge on a stretch of Badrinath highway amid the Joshimath crisis: Officials
With the Kedarnath Temple Committee announcing the dates for the opening of Shri Kedarnath Dham, cracks have been discovered on a section of the Badrinath Highway between JP and Marwari near Joshimath.
Chamoli DM Himanshu Khurana stated that cracks have formed on the Badrinath Highway between JP and Marwari.
“Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has been instructed to test the cracks and take precautionary measures,” Khurana added.
DM Khurana Joshimath reported that individuals “complained about cracks in certain dwellings.” “A team of engineers stationed in Joshimath has been dispatched to examine the fractures on the houses in order to determine the exact condition,” he added.
Once fractures formed in a number of Joshimath homes, indicating subsidence, hundreds of inhabitants were relocated to safe relief facilities.
The government of Uttarakhand has already announced millions of dollars in aid packages for the afflicted households of Joshimath.
In January, Himalayan state Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that an assistance package had been distributed to approximately 3,000 people afflicted by progressive soil sinking.
The Chief Minister also announced that each family will get 50,000 from the state disaster authority as a one-time, non-adjustable award for the transportation of commodities and emergency building needs.
During a previous telephone discussion with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Prime Minister Narendra Modi voiced worry over the situation in Joshimath and assured the state administration of his full support in coordinating rescue and relief efforts.
The Badrinath Dham is one of the four ancient pilgrimage destinations known as the ‘Char Dham,’ together with Yamunotri, Gangotri, and Kedarnath. It is located in the Uttarakhand town of Badrinath. Each year, it remains open for six months (between the end of April and the beginning of November).
