Why did Jaishankar decide to join the BJP? When did he first meet Prime Minister Modi? Details can be found here.

Foreign Affairs Minister S Jaishankar announced on Tuesday that he has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) because he believes it is the appropriate party at the right moment for India’s advancement and progress.

Jaishankar stated in an exclusive interview with ANI, “I am a member of the Rajya Sabha. This year marks the end of my term. Then we’ll have to wait and see. I honestly admire people who have dedicated their life to politics, regardless of political affiliation. You have no idea how difficult it is. How difficult it is. It is only when you are in politics that you can see what it is.”

Jaishankar’s statement came after he was asked if he will run in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

“Those who run in Lok Sabha elections are on the cutting edge. I’m transitioning from another profession to politics at a somewhat mature age. I have to spend a lot of time here as a minister. As a Delhi resident, I must spend a significant amount of time here. The Rajya Sabha’s demands are significantly smaller than those of the Lok Sabha “He was adamant.

When asked about his decision to enter politics, Jaishankar stated, “I thought about it a lot. I was ordained as a minister at the end of May. I gave it about a month before attending the party. I joined because I believe they are the appropriate party at the right moment for India’s growth and success. I had no active ambition to enter politics. It took me completely by surprise. Even before joining a political party, the Prime Minister considered me for such a position, and I became a minister. Therefore I would be distinct from many other folks who may have previously worked in bureaucracy.”

The minister stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited him to join the government when the BJP reclaimed power in 2019.

“Who invited me to join the cabinet? The Prime Minister,” he stated.

Jaishankar recalled his first encounter with PM Modi in 2011, saying, “When did I first meet Modi? In November of 2011, I met him in Beijing. He was Chief Minister at the time. He had come to visit, which is how our friendship began. In light of subsequent events, I believe I made a favourable impression.”

The Minister went on to say that the atmosphere in Delhi is more polarised than it should be.

“I do believe that sometimes the reasoning, debates, relationships, and politeness, particularly in Delhi, are more heated than they should be…than they should be for the sake of the people’s concern for the benefit of the country. I don’t always base my friendships on political affiliations.”

S Jaishankar had a distinguished 38-year diplomatic career. He served as India’s Ambassador to China, the Czech Republic, the United States, and Singapore. He was also India’s foreign secretary. Prime Minister Narendra Modi appointed him to his cabinet as Foreign Affairs Minister in 2019. (ANI)
