EU officials and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs meet to discuss “smart urbanisation”

As part of the ongoing India-EU cooperation, the joint working group (JWG) with the European Union (EU) discussed capacity building and knowledge exchange on Tuesday, according to Union Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary Manoj Joshi.

Joshi stated in a series of tweets that the meeting with top EU officials that took place on Monday centred on “smart and sustainable urbanisation.” EU Ambassador to India Ugo Assuto was among the EU officials in attendance at the conference. He tweeted, “…The JWG focused on enhancing cooperation in urban transportation, smart cities, circular economy, and solid waste management.”

The secretary stated in another tweet, “The JWG debated on the ongoing India-EU relationship in #sustainable urban development and discussed strategies to exchange know-how and build capacity. EU Commission, EIB, and EU Delegation to India officials participated in these conversations.”

Normunds Popens, the European Commission’s Deputy Director General for Regional and Urban Policy, tweeted a photo from the meeting on Monday and stated, “Cooperation between the EC and Indian authorities on urban concerns is quite intense!”

The conference was also attended by officials from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, including those from the Smart Cities Mission.
