Vande Bharat Express from Gandinagar to Mumbai: All you need to know about the fares and features

As part of the Vande Bharat series of trains launched in 2019, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Gandhinagar-Mumbai Vande Bharat Express train on Friday.

Additionally, PM Modi introduced two Vande Bharat Express trains between New Delhi and Varanasi and Katra in February and October 2019.

The following routes and timings will be covered by Vande Bharat 2.0:

Known as Vande Bharat 2.0, the Gandhinagar-Mumbai Express train covers 540 kilometers in six hours and thirty minutes. The vehicle can travel at a maximum speed of 160 kilometers per hour within 129 seconds.

During the week, the train will travel between Gandhinagar Capital and Mumbai Central.

The train number 20901, enroute from Mumbai to Gandhinagar, will depart from the Mumbai Central (MMCT) railway station at 6:10 in the morning (IST).

The train will stop at three stations – Surat (ST) at 8:50 AM, Vadodara Junction (BRC) at 10:20 AM, and Ahmedabad Junction (ADI) at 11:35 AM, before reaching Gandhinagar Capital (GNC) at 12:30 PM (IST).

The train will halt in Surat for 3 minutes, and in Vadodara and Ahmedabad for 5 minutes each.

In the afternoon (IST), train number 20902, en route Gandhinagar to Mumbai, will depart Gandhinagar Capital (GNC) at 2:05 pm.

The train arrives at the Ahmedabad Junction (ADI) at 2:40 PM and halts for three minutes. Further, the train stops at the Vadodara Junction (BRC) at 4 p.m. for five minutes, and Surat (ST) at 5:40 p.m. for a total of ten minutes, before arriving at Mumbai Central (MMCT) at 8 p.m.

Vande Bharat 2.0 seating arrangements:

There are 16 coaches on the train, which can accommodate 1,128 passengers. The AC Chair Car (CC) and the Executive Chair Car (EC) offer spacious compartments for passengers. While all seats in the EC are recliners, passengers in the EC will benefit from 180-degree rotating seats.

Total Fare:

In accordance with the Indian Railways, passengers traveling from Mumbai to Gandhinagar in its chair class will pay Rs 1,385, and in its executive class, Rs 2,505.

At present, the total fare charges vary between travel websites, depending on the platform regulations, but they remain within the range of Rs 1,255 and Rs 2,650.

A ticket for travel in the Express train’s executive class costs more than a ticket for travel in the chair class.

Chair Class Travel Charges:

Based on the IRCTC website according to the IRCTC website, the base rate to travel between Gandhinagar up to Mumbai costs Rs. 974 and between Mumbai to Gandhinagar is Rs 975.

Passengers can book meals in advance, for a cost of Rs. 308 (inclusive in GST) for their journey to Gandhinagar to Mumbai and then priced at Rs.142 (inclusive in GST) on the way between Mumbai up to Gandhinagar.

The superfast and reservation charges for both routes are the sum of Rs 40 and Rs 45 and Rs 45, respectively. The GST total for travel is around Rs 53.

Business Class Transportation Fees:

The cost of travel within an EC that travels that is, from Mumbai towards Gandhinagar is Rs. 2,017 and the one for travel from Gandhinagar towards Mumbai is 2,018.

Passengers can book meals in advance when making reservations via IRCTC for Rs 175 on the way from Mumbai to Gandhinagar or for Rs 369 for travel between Gandhinagar towards Mumbai.

The charges for superfast and reservation for both routes are the sum of Rs 60 and Rs 75 and Rs 75, respectively. The total GST for travel on this train is 108 rupees.

Traveling between Mumbai to Gandhinagar costs $1255 for the chair class and 2 435 for executive class according to MakeMyTrip one of the most popular travel sites in India. Tickets cost Rs 1,320 and Rs 2,415 to Gandhinagar to Mumbai in the executive and chair coaches and executive coaches, respectively, on MMT.

What’s the ‘Next-Gen’ in it:

The semi-high-speed train is fitted with an anti-collision system made of KAVACH, Indian Railways’ own Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, CCTV cameras as well as automatic exit and entry gates. The lights that illuminate the coaches are powered by the battery backup of 3 hours.

It also provides passengers with wi-fi connectivity, an information system and an LCD screen with a size of 32 inches in all coach. Air inside trains is cleaned by the photo catalytic ultraviolet purification system that kills 99 percent of bacteria according to the Railways says.

It also has Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) as well as the ability to slide steps in coaches to enhance the experience of passengers.

Furthermore, Braille alphabet on seat numbers as well as other textual components is helpful to passengers with special needs.

The train is currently operating at the speed of 130 km each hour “because of the track’s design,” said Sumit Thakur CPRO. (CPRO) of Western Railways. “Work is in progress for upgrade of the track and the plan is to finish in March 2024,” Thakur said.
