In Palamu, 13 people were arrested, and internet services will remain suspended.

Police said on Thursday that 13 people were arrested in Jharkhand’s Palamu district because of a fight between members of two communities on Wednesday over putting up a temporary arch for the upcoming Shivratri festival in the Panki area. 147 people are named in the two FIRs that were filed because of the incident.

Police said that some houses had been partially burned down. The district has lost access to the Internet. A source in the government said that internet services and social media platforms like Whatsapp, Twitter, and Instagram will be shut down in the Palamu district until February 19. This is to stop rumours from spreading, which could disrupt law and order.

Deputy Commissioner Anjaneyulu Dodde said that nothing bad happened in Panki during the day. He told PTI that about 1,000 district police and paramilitary personnel had been sent to keep order.

Chandan Kumar Sinha, who is in charge of the police in Palamu, said, “We are looking for the troublemakers from both communities who threw stones.” So far, we have arrested 13 people, and more than 1,000 people we don’t know have been accused. We have sent troops to all dangerous areas.”

FIRs were filed under IPC sections about rioting, trying to kill someone, and other things.
