In relation to the Indigo aircraft incident, opposition lawmakers have criticised Tejasvi Surya for neglecting passenger safety.

After it was said that Tejasvi Surya, a BJP MP from Bengaluru South, tried to open the emergency exit door on the Indigo flight, leaders of other parties slammed the BJP hard.
Tejasvi Surya, the national head of the BJP Yuva Morcha and the party’s representative for Bengaluru South, allegedly unlocked the emergency evacuation door of an IndiGo aircraft prior to takeoff at the Chennai airport on December 10, 2017.
Randeep Singh Surjewala, a congressman for the opposition party, tweeted, “The BJP VIP Brats! How dare the airline to make a complaint? Is this typical of the BJP’s power elite? Did it compromise the safety of passengers? Ohhh! You cannot inquire about the BJP’s privileged VIPs!”
The BJP VIP Brats !
How dare the airline complain?
Is it the norm for the BJP power elite?
Did it compromise passenger safety?
Ohhh!
U can’t ask questions about BJP’s entitled VIP’s !https://t.co/BbyJ0oEcN6— Randeep Singh Surjewala (@rssurjewala) January 17, 2023
Sharing a photo of Surya and the Indigo flight, Congress lawmaker Abhishek Singhvi, without naming the BJP member of parliament, tweeted, “It appears that someone is overly ambitious in their political career. It does not occur in this manner. In politics, humility and perseverance are more important than instability and conceit.
Seems someone is too eager to achieve big in political life. It doesn’t happen this way. Success in politics is a factor of humility and perseverance, not volatility and arrogance.#Indigohttps://t.co/hj5wVS57Ro

Shiv Sena lawmaker Priyanka Chaturvedi tweeted a call for severe action. “Has ? Indigo notified DGCA of this incident? Should one not? take suo moto notice of this occurrence? “Would an apology suffice if the incident occurred after the aeroplane had taken off rather than while it was taxiing on the runway?”
Has @IndiGo6E reported this incident to @DGCAIndia ? Shouldn’t one take suo moto cognisance of this incident? What if this happened once the aircraft had taken off rather than when it was taxiing on the runway, should an apology suffice? https://t.co/vWQ91e94mm

The chair of social media and digital platforms, Supriya Shrinate, urged that the BJP representative be taught a lesson. She posted on Twitter: A wicked man unlocks the emergency escape door on an aircraft, causing a three-hour delay; the identity of the person who put lives in danger and caused trouble was not discovered for a month. Intoxicated with power, that politician fosters hatred daily. This spoilt Tejasvi Surya must be disciplined.
This spoilt Tejasvi Surya needs to be taught a lesson.

Tamil Nadu DMK MLA T R B Rajaa criticised Tejasvi Surya and stated, “A passenger who watched what transpired onboard reported to TNM that passengers panicked as the door was opened.”
"A passenger who witnessed what happened onboard told TNM that the passengers panicked when the door was opened. “Thankfully it happened when the flight was on the ground." It would have been really bad if something like this had happened mid-air !https://t.co/WNjhgmgZ1N

It would have been disastrous if this had occurred during the flight!
The airline issued a statement on Tuesday, more than a month after the event, in response to media coverage. While Surya was mentioned in the reports, IndiGo did not name anyone in its statement.
“During the boarding process of Flight 6E 7339 from Chennai to Tiruchirapalli on December 10, 2022, a passenger mistakenly unlocked the emergency exit. The passenger apologised instantly for his actions. “In accordance with SOPs, the incident was documented and the aircraft underwent obligatory engineering checks, delaying the flight’s departure,” the airline said.
However, airline sources verified that it was Surya, who was flying with K Annamalai, the president of the BJP in Tamil Nadu.
