The Foreign Secretary travels to Bhutan to discuss bilateral relations.

India’s Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra travelled to Bhutan on Wednesday to assess bilateral cooperation, particularly defence relations, days after Bhutan and China concluded boundary issue discussions.

According to the Indian embassy in Thimphu, Kwatra would hold bilateral meetings with Bhutanese Foreign Secretary Aum Pema Choden and co-chair the fourth ‘India-Bhutan Development Cooperation Talks’ It was stated that Kwatra will also contact the Bhutanese government.

“Welcome Foreign Secretary @AmbVMKwatra on his arrival in Paro, Bhutan, on an official visit from January 18-20. He will have bilateral meetings with Bhutan’s foreign minister, Aum Pema Choden, and co-chair the 4th India-Bhutan Development Cooperation Talks, according to a tweet from the Indian embassy.

According to the statement, the visit is “in keeping with the tradition of regular high-level interactions between India and Bhutan” and will allow the two countries to address all aspects of their bilateral ties.

The Bhutanese foreign ministry stated in a statement that Kwatra will meet with the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister in addition to Choden.
