Asad, an associate, was buried at Prayagraj.

Asad, the son of Atiq Ahmad, was interred on Saturday at Kasari Masari village in Prayagraj in the presence of family and security. His associate Ghulam Hassan was interred in the Mehenddauri region.

Both corpses were transported to Prayagraj by road on Saturday morning under heavy police protection.

Thursday, the Special Task Force of the UP Police murdered Asad and Ghulam during an encounter. In the murder of Umesh Pal, the two were bearing a reward of Rs 500,000 each. Asad, the third of Atiq Ahmad’s five sons, had been missing since the assassination of Umesh.

Asad and Ghulam’s families had travelled to Jhansi to claim their carcasses, which were expected to arrive on Friday evening. The delay was caused by the conclusion of postmortem procedures, according to a police official.

Asad’s corpse was transported directly to the cemetery in Kasari Masari village, where Atiq’s father, Feroz Ahmed, was interred. There was considerable police presence in and around the cemetery.

Access to the cemetery was restricted. Inside were Asad’s relatives, including his maternal grandfather and uncle Usman.

Prior to the police encounter, Ghulam’s family, including his mother, had refused to claim the body and had justified their refusal.

“Asad Ahmad’s last rituals have been completed and lasted an hour. A few distant relatives of Atiq and a few locals were permitted to enter the cemetery. This was imperative from a security standpoint,” Akash Kulhari, joint commissioner of police in Prayagraj, told PTI.

After Asad’s burial, Asad’s maternal grandfather Hamid Ali remarked, “A number of family members participated in the final ceremonies. Among his closest relatives, however, only his uncle (‘phupha’) attended the funeral.”

Ali also stated, “No family members or relatives were prevented from visiting the cemetery, and all burial rituals were performed correctly. We have no complaints about the administration, as everything was handled properly. Roughly 100 people attended (Asad’s) funeral.”
