In Chhattisgarh, PM Modi constructs an anti-Congress narrative around corruption and the liquor Scam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi built an anti-Congress narrative around the liquor scandal while speaking at a rally in Raipur on Friday, claiming that the ruling party in Chhattisgarh committed corruption in the sale of alcohol and used the money to fund the party.

Less than six months before Assembly elections in Chhattisgarh, PM Modi was in Raipur to set the foundation stone for projects worth approximately Rs 7,500 crore in the state.

“The Congress betrayed the Chhattisgarh ladies. They promised to outlaw alcoholic beverages, but instead, they engaged in corruption worth crores, with the proceeds going into the account of the Congress party, he said.

PM Modi criticised the power struggle between Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Deputy Chief Minister T S Singh Deo without naming any Congress leader. Baghel and Singh Deo allegedly reached an informal power-sharing agreement after the party won the 2018 Assembly elections.

“The 2-and-a-half-year CM seat formula could not be implemented due to a dispute over money from a liquor fraud. Congress views Chhattisgarh as a cash machine. During elections in India over the past three to four years, it is now clear why the Congress assigned responsibilities to its representatives from Chhattisgarh. The last four years have demonstrated that the Congress cannot exist without corruption, as it is central to their ideology,” Modi added.

PM Modi asserted that in addition to the coal levy scam, the sand mafia and land mafia were active in Chhattisgarh. He claimed that construction of homes for the impoverished slowed during the Congress’s rule. “When the BJP was in power, every year two hundred thousand houses were built for the needy, but since the Congress came to power, not even one hundred thousand houses are built annually. They are engaging in paddy procurement activities. The federal government purchased 80 percent of the state’s paddy. The BJP central government has given paddy producers over 1 lakh crore in the past nine years. Even this year, producers have received 22,000 crores. Paddy farmers are being betrayed and lied to by the Congress, he said.

“The government of Chhattisgarh has become a model of Congress’ corruption and poor administration. The two known to be corrupt and who were at odds are attempting to find common ground. They believe that by doing so, Modi will be frightened. Modi is a guarantee of action against corruption if they are a guarantee of corruption. No perpetrator will be spared. The prime minister stated, “I have the courage to say this because everything I have was given to me by the people and the country.”

In his comparison of the BJP and the Democratic Party, Modi also addressed development, health, infrastructure, and the tribal community. He stated that the central government under the BJP spends more than Rs 7,000 crore on two rail corridors and highway projects that will generate jobs. “We constructed twice as many roads as the Congress.” Approximately 40 lakh individuals received free medical care thanks to the Ayushman card. We provided complimentary rations during Operation Covid and continue to do so.

“We established a ministry of tribal welfare and model schools for the Eklavya.” Sukma, Dantewada, and Bijapur were designated as aspirational districts, and we worked on them. Significant efforts are being made to eradicate sickle cell anaemia. Modi stated that blood banks, bone marrow transplants, and screening services are being provided to prevent the transmission of the disease to future generations.

Before beginning his speech, PM Modi expressed sorrow over the deaths of three individuals who were on their way to his rally in Raipur when they were killed in a road accident.
