Chhattisgarh: 8 BJP officials are cited for ‘hate speech’

The police have served eight members of the Chhattisgarh unit of the BJP, including spokespersons, with notices for allegedly publishing hateful content on social media, police said Friday.

The police stated that eight BJP officials had been asked to appear before them and provide factual statements regarding their positions.

The eight are party treasurer Nandan Jain, Chhattisgarh BJP IT cell in-charge Sunil Pillai, spokesperson Sanjay Shrivastava, BJP trade cell president and spokesperson Kedarnath Gupta, BJP Yuva morcha board president Yogendra Sahu, Yuva Morcha divisional coordinator Kamal Sharma, DD Nagar Yuva Morcha president Shubhankar, and party worker Bittu Panigrahi.

The notice was issued four days after the Congress party filed a complaint with the Raipur police, accusing BJP members of promoting hatred via social media, including the party’s official handle.

A 23-year-old was slain during communal violence in Biranpur village, Bemetara district, according to one of the police notices. The notices also stated that BJP officials had made derogatory remarks about Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.
