Congress leader Rahul Gandhi met Sharad Pawar at the residence of the NCP president on Thursday in what appeared to be a show of support for the veteran leader amid a rebellion in his party led by his nephew Ajit Pawar.
Gandhi arrived at 6 Janpath, the NCP veteran’s official residence, shortly after Sharad Pawar had addressed reporters following the national executive meeting.
Sharad Pawar stated that he is the party’s president after a national executive meeting in New Delhi. Pawar senior’s statement followed Ajit Pawar’s faction’s announcement that the veteran leader has been removed from office and should now retire.
“It is of no consequence if Ajit Pawar says something. Whether I am 82 or 92, I am still effective. Now, we will say whatever is necessary to the Election Commission of India,” he said.
